Rohan Jaitley, the incumbent President of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA), has been re-elected for a second consecutive term after defeating former cricketer and TMC MP Kirti Azad. The election, held on Monday, saw Jaitley securing 1,577 votes, while Azad managed 777 votes. With a total of 2,413 votes cast, the winning threshold stood at 1,207 votes.
Jaitley’s group dominated the elections, securing all other key posts:
- Vice President: Shikha Kumar won with 1,246 votes, defeating Rakesh Kumar Bansal (536 votes) and Sudhir Kumar Agarwal (498 votes).
- Secretary: Ashok Sharma emerged victorious.
- Treasurer: Harish Singla secured 1,049 votes.
- Joint Secretary: Amit Grover claimed the position.
Kirti Azad, part of India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup-winning team and sitting TMC MP from Bardhaman-Durgapur, campaigned on allegations of corruption within DDCA. Azad claimed the association had spent only a fraction of the ₹140 crore received from BCCI last year.
Rohan Jaitley, son of former Union Minister Arun Jaitley, who served as DDCA president for 14 years, stepped into cricket administration four years ago. Under his leadership, Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium successfully hosted five ODI World Cup matches last year. He also spearheaded the inaugural Delhi Premier League T20 Tournament, featuring star cricketers like Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma.
Azad, expelled from BJP in 2019, initially joined Congress and later moved to Mamata Banerjee’s TMC in 2021. Despite his allegations during the campaign, Jaitley’s leadership and achievements resonated strongly with voters, leading to his decisive win.
