Rohan Jaitley secured a resounding victory over senior advocate Vikas Singh to be re-elected as the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Meanwhile, Siddharth Verma, the son of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma and a former first-class cricketer, claimed the Secretary’s post, defeating the controversial Vinod Tihara.
The vote count concluded late Thursday night, with Rohan Jaitley, son of late Union Minister Arun Jaitley, receiving 1,658 votes for the President’s post, leaving Vikas Singh far behind with only 662 votes. This marks Singh’s second significant defeat in the race for the DDCA presidency, having previously lost to senior journalist Rajat Sharma.
The elections also witnessed Siddharth Verma securing 1,322 votes to Tihara’s 704 in the Secretary race. Former Railways and Delhi cricketer Verma campaigned as an independent candidate. A third candidate, Rakesh Bansal, brother of ex-BCCI Vice President Sneh Bansal, garnered only 248 votes.
In other results, Pawan Ghulati, maternal uncle of former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, was elected Treasurer, while Shashi Khanna, wife of former BCCI acting President C.K. Khanna, retained her position as Vice President.
Expressing gratitude for his win, Verma said, “It is a great victory for me personally. I would like to extend all my cooperation to Rohan and work for the betterment of Delhi cricket. As a former cricketer, working for their cause remains my priority.”
The elections signify a shift in DDCA leadership, with both seasoned administrators and new faces promising reform and progress for Delhi cricket.
