Jay Shah has been unanimously chosen as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), with his tenure commencing on December 1, 2024. Currently serving as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Shah will make history as the youngest individual to assume the ICC’s top position, succeeding Greg Barclay. Amid this transition, Rohan Jaitley, President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), is being viewed as the frontrunner to succeed Shah as the new BCCI Secretary.
Rohan Jaitley has served as the DDCA President for four years and was recently re-elected for another term. His leadership in cricket administration has been marked by significant milestones, including hosting ODI World Cup matches and organizing the Delhi Premier League.
Beyond cricket, Rohan Jaitley is a prominent Indian lawyer practicing at the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India. He is the son of the late Arun Jaitley, a distinguished lawyer-turned-politician and former cabinet minister, and Sangeeta Jaitley. Rohan completed his education at Delhi Public School, RK Puram, followed by a law degree at Amity University and a Master’s in Law from Cornell University in the United States.
DDCA Presidential Election
Rohan Jaitley has filed nominations for another term as DDCA President. Other candidates include his mother, Sangeeta Jaitley, former cricketer Kirti Azad, and Lok Sabha MP.
Transforming DDCA Under Rohan Jaitley
When Rohan Jaitley assumed the DDCA presidency, the association faced severe financial distress, with reserves of just Rs 85 lakh and outstanding dues of Rs 22 crore. Reports indicate that years of mismanagement had plagued the association. Under Jaitley’s leadership, the DDCA underwent a remarkable turnaround, investing Rs 70 crore to renovate the stadium for the 2023 World Cup and securing a Rs 100-crore fixed deposit. Today, over 95% of the DDCA’s budget is allocated to cricket, with annual T20 revenues reaching Rs 65 crore, reflecting significant financial and operational improvements.
